Juggling life, work and ironing

My ongoing theme at 3FoldCreate - Social on a Shoestring - is aimed at people who want to grow their business, they have a good working knowledge of social media but they lack the resources – time or money – and need a bit of help to get started.

At the time of writing, it is 9.30pm. I am writing social media reports for clients and thinking about penning my new book (Social on a Shoestring) whilst boiling a ham shank and hoping that my daughter doesn’t wake up. Oh yeah, I'm writing a book. More about that later...

I’m working against the clock, because once I’ve got all that done I am the Iron(ing) Woman. That is, I will be trying to conquer the enormous, offensive pile of ironing that has built up over the past week. This is the result of three glorious days of sunshine and 72 hours of solid washing. Sure, I broke the back of my laundry pile, but it’s now lying in a crumpled heap on the floor. Damn.

On top of this I need to create a load of social media graphics, monitor the analytics and check in for some #BusinessHours on Twitter.

A lot of people ask me ‘how do you do it?’. My reply is always ‘Look at me!!’ I look like a cavewoman, my hair is a matted mess, my eyes are wild, I’m covered in bracken and I haven’t shaved my legs for at least six weeks. Well, something’s got to give…

But seriously, the trick is to find time. If you are focused and determined you can (probably) bend the laws of physics and alter time and space. Or, at the very least take 10 minutes to figure out what needs doing and write a bullet point to-do list that you can visit later, which in my case is generally when my daughter goes to bed.

I’m a big fan of social media management tools like Hootsuite and Buffer. If I know my day is going to be manic, I can line some posts across various social media platforms the night before and I can monitor/respond using my smartphone whilst I’m on the run.

In terms of creating content, I need to keep reminding myself that I am not a news service, so I can create a stack of evergreen content that can be published and re-used any time. Especially now that I'm writing a book on top of everything else. I’m not complaining, this is quite possibly the most exciting thing that has ever happened to me. Yey!

Anyway, where was I? Oh yes. Ironing. And maybe Game of Thrones on playback later.

This is what the inside of my mind generally looks like these days.
